Prepare for May

I think I will join May 1st Reboot.

What is CSS Reboot?

The CSS Reboot is a community event for web professionals and enthusiasts. Every November 1st and May 1st at 18:00 GMT, Rebooters from all over the world launch their standards based website redesigns simultaneously; bringing traffic, interest and a little respect to their sites. There are no prizes or arbitrary winners, just great exposure and the knowledge that we all participated in something great.

That’s from their official website, which is recently just redesigned for this event.

What does it mean for me?

It means a lot. I have a plan to redesign this website. I also have a few plan of huge makeover for this website. Including are, combine my museum’s archives and the recent post, thinking whether publish in English or Indonesian (single languages), and some simplicity of content, design, and user interface. I’d love to know that I still a simplicity lover. (Note: when I am going to be more complex, yet it was until now, it turns to be a huge fail)

Finally, I think this website have a little success. Hey, I start it again with 4 PageRank, and now is 5 again (yet my 2003’s scoring at 6).

Last but not least, this post means to encourage more website to be redesigned. I love to see more website usable and accessible, not just to say in excitement and attractiveness. Especially for Indonesian website, come on guys! Don’t forget that by participating in this event, it will make your sites more popular, hey it’s published worldwide. And, it’s exciting.

Plus, I think I will publish behind the scenes progress on how this website will be designed. Please stay tunes!

Yes, web standard based, it means building website using standard methodology ruled by W3C. It is obviously the implementation of HTML or XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Even so, it is now known that web standard based, is website that built by separating the content in XHTML (pure content, no layout tags, etc) and styling via CSS. Some added, the standard also separate behavior (why user interact, event handling, etc) in JavaScript, not embedded JavaScript in XHTML.

In addition, the web standard also talk about the semantic code, the code that has a meaning. What is the title/header, what sub topic (sub heading) the page has, and so on. The later, web standard based means, the website support for disabled people, how the code help people with disabilities can read your website, how machine reader understand your website, how the handheld devices easily parses your website without boundaries.

It is usually in XHTML and CSS. It is usually validated.
