The History of Weapons of Mass Destruction

If now America just provoking their allies to war Iraq in the danger of Mass Destruction weapon, the're must be wrong. European says, war is inevitable now. Yet, Saddam may recorded his history on such dangerous weapons at past, but we now should be consent on what UN inspection team. If not, we just blame what the world build on world supreme law. That's proved by global anti-war protest through all the world, here is the map of the protest.

Recorded use of weapons of mass destruction goes back to the Middle Ages. Whenever the rules of war fell into disregard, the target moved from the enemy’s soldiers to his people. The weapon of choice against a civilian enemy became biological, then chemical and nuclear, as soon as scientific advancement and technological development made them available. This timeline aims to give a broad overview, in time as well as space, of the development of WMDs as a lengthy prelude to recent events in Iraq.

Indonesian Literature

The new era of Indonesian young woman writers might have just started since around the last 5 years. It began by the appearance of a controversial novel Saman written by Ayu Utami (1998), because of her courage on demonstrating political repression, religion intolerance, and woman sexuality. Some pros praised her unpretend depiction on those 'taboo'-things, while some cons critisized it.

And then some other young woman writers come out from their hiding place and succesfully enliven Indonesian literature such as Fira Basuki (Trilogy Novels: Jendela-Jendela, Pintu, and Atap), Dewi 'Dee' Lestari (Supernova), Djenar Maesa Ayu (Kumpulan Cerpen: Mereka Bilang Saya Monyet), Violetta Simatupang (Kumpulan Puisi: Anak-Anak Vampir), and many more.

Thanks to Farid who has wrote that in his blog several days ago. I just happy by that since I remember to note a discussion who held on Jakarta last week at Gramedia Matraman. The discussion present all above womens except Ayu Utami who can't attend.

The Indonesian women's writer is really phenomenon, while their works has been surprisingly appreciated by the growing quantities of Indonesian readers, though it might be not on qualities (both on readers and writers). Talking literature, we must remember to call some works (both on fiction and non-fiction) who could be aspire and become inspiration for all their readers. We could say like famously Indonesian writer Pramodya Ananta Toer and poet artist Chairil Anwar. They, the women, i think still didn't, except for their matter of increasing popularity become a passion for young that they could imagine to be like them. Though, this is still too good to get to :) Maybe some more years, and some more works could prove my critic was wrong. Let's hope and see!

Me, World, and You: Still Roll

I want to congratulate every muslim in the world in the celebration of Iedul Adha, may ALlah bless you on every sacrifice during the Holy Dzulhijjah month. Syaikh Abdul Qadir was noted that, the very meaningfull sacrifice is only happen on the totality of soul clearance. In this time, every muslim who behaved their prosperity do Qurban by chop off a goat or cow or buffola, and dole out its meat to poor people. As of this month, every muslim also practising Hajj as tragically happened, 14 Muslim pilgrims trampled to death in Saudi Arabia. It's really sad news, though Saudi Government had did their best management with million pilgrimages who visiting, in this case we should appreciated them. This ritual only, happened on Mina, a place at the east of Mecca, is a time where only happened on just a day to did and every pilgrimages should get on it.

Now, the debate on whichever Iraq should be attacked by US and its allies still continue on. However, I collect some nice news archive including: a Saddam interview on Times, and A Baghdad Blog (Where is Raed), and also Spies, Lies & Iraq that focused on the recent Iraq crisis with the appearance of a women claimed to be Saddam's former mistress. In Indonesia, it's happened that this issues goes nationally and have been politically mis-lead by political leader to get attention on next 2004 Election. As this election, I think I would cover some and kept a seperate blog just focus on it. I think it's good to start in the mid 2003.

And, it's for Oscar to coming on next month. If you haven't been noticed before, Newsweek just covering new issues on its nomination. Somewhile, the new Jet Li nominated Oscar movie Hero just become a hit, a story about Qin Shihuang's fearsome exercise of power 2,200 years ago. Has been compared to the actions of Napoleon and Stalin, and his bloody legacy remains a raw wound in today's China.

Iraq expels Indonesian journalist

The Iraqi authorities have expelled an Indonesian journalist for visa violations, an Indonesian foreign ministry official said on Tuesday.

Ministry spokesman Marty Natalegawa told The Jakarta Post that the journalist, Dahlan, who works for the Surabaya-based daily Surya, was briefly detained by Iraqi troops guarding the border with Jordan on Monday night before he was deported.

"He is now safe in the Indonesian embassy in Amman," Marty said.

Quoting Indonesian diplomats in Jordan, Marty said Dahlan had entered Iraqi territory without a visa or the necessary documents, including a special permit from President Saddam Hussein's office that is required for foreign journalists wishing to visit the Middle Eastern country, currently under threat of attack from the United States.
