NU Asks the US Not to Create Public Opinion about Terrorism

Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Executive Board Chairman, Hasyim Muzadi, has asked the US not to create public opinion that Indonesia is a nest of terrorism.

“Strong evidence is needed, not only intelligence reports but real proof of international crime that could lead to legal action,” Hasyim said during a press conference after meeting with the US Ambassador for Indonesia, Ralph L. Boyce, on Friday (27/9).

Hasyim quoted Boyce as saying that the US government has agreed not to create public opinion that Indonesia is a terrorist nest. According to Hasyim, Boyce has promised to convey Hasyim’s request for the US government to formally deny its previous statement.

Hasyim said he was scheduled to pay a visit to England to convey NU’s stance on terrorism and the plan to attack Iraq.
