Jews Interests at War on Iraq?
"A constituent of Congressman Jim Moran (D-Virginia) asked him at a public forum why he didn't think the anti-war sentiment was as effective in the United States as it was in Europe," profwhat writes. "While Moran (who represents wealthy voters in Northern Virginia's Washington D.C. suburbs) could have answered that the difference owed to Europe's different political structure, or to the psychological impact of terrorist attacks here, or to European misgivings about growing American power, Moran instead offered this answer:"If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this. The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going and I think they should."
"Jewish groups and writers instantly condemned the remarks. 'What we have here is a United States congressman endorsing and spreading one of the oldest and most pernicious myths in the annals of ethnic hatred: It's those all-powerful Jews,' said Washington Post columnist Marc Fisher. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer called the remarks 'shocking,' and House Republican leader Tom DeLay called on Moran's fellow Democrats to condemn the remarks. Many have: six Democrats (all Jewish) wrote a letter to Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi saying Moran should not run again. Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle and presidential candidate John Kerry have also all denounced the remarks, though they held off on saying Moran should resign. Moran represents a gerrymandered district that is highly favorable to Democrats, so any challenge will have to come from within his party.
"An often-repeated theory goes that a small group of Jews, often referred to in code as 'neoconservatives' (a list that seems to always include hawkish Jews like Bill Kristol and Paul Wolfowitz) want to depose Saddam Hussein to improve Israeli security. These 'neocons' then insinuated themselves into the Bush administration and seized on 9/11 as the pretext to put their plan -- manifesto'd, some say, in a 1996 position paper written for the Netanyahu administration -- into motion.
Update (3/15): a new counter on Washington, but no matter Jews quantity and how, it's just a question is true war on Iraq most profitted to Israel--in particularly, instead of Jew :)
